Natural History Museum and Getting Lost with a GPS

Going to LA is one of my favorite things because there is so much to do and see.  I also love being in the car and not driving haha.  It is so relaxing to me.  It is so relaxing that I don’t pay attention to my GPS as much as should hence getting lost in a sketchy part of LA.  It took us two hours on a Saturday to reach our destination waaaaaaaay longer then needed.  Just to prove how our timing and God’s is completely different and His is way better.  By the time we go to Natural History Museum tickets were half price! So we both got in for only $10! How awesome is that?! Plus a lot of it was under construction so we made it through the whole museum in under an hour! Here are a few of the high lights from the awesome adventure J.

Surprises in the mail!

I love getting surprises!

I just received a letter from my dear friend Laurel who is in the Peace Corp.  She has been there for a year and is doing awesome stuff.  You can follow her on her blog http://llaidlaw.wordpress.com/.  She is such and inspiration of what it means to jump out in faith and serve God.  The challenges she faces being away from family and friends, plus cultural differences would give me a heart attack.  She has done some awesome things like build a whole house out of bottles!  Check out how cool this New Year’s card is that she made me and the neat stamps.

Also have to love getting probiotics delivered to your work J. This stuff is the best!!! It tastes yummy (the berry is the best).  It’s great to mix vitamin c crystals in with to kick a cold.

Nice People

Hello!

School has been so awesome and I have learned so much about not only hair, but about myself.  I always thought of myself as nice, but I have a long way to go.  It is really encouraging knowing that I can keep growing and things always can be changed.  I have always been really interested in hearing people’s stories, but I notice I do it so I can compare them to myself.  I had an eye opening experience when I found something out about a person I have felt was someone I shouldn’t interact with.  I forgot that they are a person with feelings and that I should be nice to them no matter what because I don’t lose anything by being nice.  On the other hand I completely lose by being mean.  I don’t want to be a mean person.  So I have outlined a plan for myself.

1.      Be nice!!

2.    Listen to other people, talk less about myself

3.    Say hi

4.    Smile more

5.    Treat people how I want to be treated

6.    Stop getting weird (I get weird sometimes)

7.    Be consistent

Let’s all work on being nice today J.

Finger Waves & Pin Curls

Hello!!

Yesterday we had a competition for the best hair style using pin curls and finger waves.  First off I would like to say my finger waves were a fail. They are so awesome looking, but sooooo challenging to do!!! This is the best attempt I had a doing them.

 



So for the competition I decided to stand up pin curls on the top (similar to what a roller would do) and all along the back of the head and sides.

My delightful partner and I decided to style the hair into victory rolls on the top and have graduated curls in the back. 

We lost so sad, but so fun to be able to have fun with hair.  I am so glad that at this point in my life I have been blessed with the opportunity to do what I enjoy doing.  I am excited about learning new techniques and doing this for the rest of my life.  I couldn't imagine my life without being creative.  Thank you God for this opportunity!!!  I also learned yesterday that I have a learning style of an "inventor." It's pretty awesome, because I am super random and now I know why, I just look at the world in a different way than everyone else.

Yesterday in class we learned how to do a curl set!  It seems so old school and boring but it is so fun and there are so many amazing styles that can be produced using old school curlers.

A really dramatic or subtle long lasting sexy affect can be achieved with a curl set.  I am so excited to get practicing on creating different styles!!!!

A Few Things That Make Me Smile

One of my favorite places to go is the Mitsuwa Marketplace.  It is a massive Asian market with a cafeteria full of yummy food.   The tempura there is my favorite (yet it is soooo not good for you).  They also have this crazy awesome store that plays really loud Asian techno music and carries the cutest stuff like these super fun clocks that move from side to side.

A recap of a few of my favorite things from last year

Happy New Year!!!!!!  

I started school at Paul Mitchell yesterday and was sooooo excited about moving on with my life and having direction.  I haven't had direction in years!!!! I had no idea where i wanted to go, what i liked, what i was interested in, where i wanted to live; nothing! The last two years have been amazing.  I have over-come so many HUGE obstacles that i could NEVER imagine being able too.  No matter what was standing in my way or how scared or angry i was i knew that God had gone out before me and had cleared a path for me, i just had to be patient enough to wait.  It has been a crazy two years and i am soooo excited about 2012!!! I hope your 2012 is amazing!!! Enjoy a few of my favorite random things from last year... I hope you like them!
